Participatory Budgeting New Orleans aims to improve our city’s municipal budgeting process by bringing transparency and accountability to city government and a real voice to the residents of New Orleans.
Participatory Budgeting is a three-step budgeting process used around the world and increasingly in the United States. To learn more, visit the PB Project’s website. Here’s how the process works:
1. Groups of residents get together to brainstorm ideas about ways city spending could directly impact their neighborhoods.
2. These community groups break down specific ideas into details and dollars and put them on a ballot.
3. The people vote! The top votes receive funding, real projects are created and communities are improved.
